Every month we ask one individual in our network a few questions about their way into tech, their motivation and their lessons learned.

Let’s start from the beginning. Tell us about where you’re from!

I was born and raised in a small town in the north of Germany, close to Hamburg. At the age of 20 I moved to Vancouver and shortly after to Berlin. In 2014 I moved to Zurich and have been based here since.

What valuable advice did you get from your parents?

My parents always advised me to follow my passions and to never do anything just for financial stability.

How did you become interested in tech?

I got my first computer when I was 3 years. It was an old Amiga 500 from the office of my father´s friend. I was very keen on playing video games and spent days exploring ways to use this device. This was the beginning of my fascination with technology and gadgets. My interest was severely empowered some years later as I discovered ecommerce. Since then I imagined and realised, that I would really like to be part of this community.

What aspects of your work are you proudest of?

I have worked hard to leave footprints in businesses. In my position as head of commerce at Liip and as a founder of my business development company Groundbreakers, I am able to influence and bring about new strategies to digital businesses that can have a huge impact of the success of the business model and the company structure.

What drives you at work?

I am driven by the people I work with. For me the most valuable aspect and huge success factors of a project are the way you get to meet, learn about and work with other people. I find the open mindedness, agility and the curiosity of the inventors I work with on a daily basis incredibly amazing.

What has been your toughest challenge you faced while working in tech?

To take a deep dive into coding. I completed a 9 weeks intense workshop last year to continue my understanding of the complexity within coding.

What advice would you give other women in tech?

You can learn anything you want – you just need to believe in yourself. And sometimes the extra mile is just an extra meter.
