Inclusion on Purpose

Inclusion on Purpose

Inclusion on Purpose argues that inclusion is not a by‑product of good intentions or diverse head‑counts: it must be intentional, practiced and structured. Ruchika T. Malhotra centres the lived experience of women of colour in the workplace to show how race and gender intersect to create unique barriers. She critiques notions like the “level playing field” and “leaning in”, and instead outlines how organisations and leaders can dismantle structural bias through concrete behaviours, systems and mind‑sets. Key tasks include shifting from hiring for “culture fit” to “culture add”, ensuring psychological safety, paying women of colour equitably for equal work, and designing inclusive systems, not just inclusive messaging. The book is both a call‑to‑action and a toolkit for change: one part narrative of inequity, one part roadmap for inclusive leadership and organisation design.
